Marchesi di Barolo is a historic producer in Barolo, in Piedmont. The estate traces its lineage to the early 19th century wedding of a French aristocrat, Giulia Vittorina Colbert, with an Italian aristocrat, the Marquis Carlo Tancredi of Barolo. In the mid-nineteenth century the Barolo of the estate were highly sought after. Today the 250-acre estate is owned by the Ernesto Abbona family. The company produces Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and other vines. Gambero Rosso, the main wine diary in Italy, defines the wines of Marchesi di Barolo as “a lodge in the vast constellation of Langhe wines”. Gambero Rosso has awarded the producer several 3 Glasses awards – the highest possible score – for his Barolos.

Vintage wine should not be considered as a product to be tasted, but as an emotion to be given that brings with it the memories of a past time. It is first of all a collector’s item, with a high antiques value and only later, if you are lucky, a wine to taste.
